Out of the 5,708 return-to-work retirees that were members of the Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana in January 2011:

— The overwhelming majority, or 5,046 members, were employed by the public K-12 system

— Higher education accounted for 361 members; charter schools, 156 members; community colleges and related boards, 48; state agencies, 36; medical, 23; technical colleges, 27; other agencies, 6; and education unions, 5

— 1,498 reemployed retirees had less than 25 years of service

— 2,448 had 25 to 30 years of service

— 1,762 had more than 30 years

— 2,694 reemployed retirees were actually classified as teachers, professors or instructors

— 296 were classified as principals, administrators or central office

— 78 had clerical jobs

— 959 were defined as “other”
