Commentary: ACORN Whistleblower Launches Tea Party as Tribute to MLK’s Vision

Freedom from Government Dependency Can Restore MLK’s Vision, Tea Party Activists Say

As Louisiana residents observe the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, they should know that a new Tea Party organization committed to the interests of black Americans is taking shape in Houston Texas. The new organization seeks to advance King’s commitment to equality, liberty and upward mobility by offering an alternative vision to “Great Society” programs of the 1960s.

The “Crispus Attucks Tea Party” will hold its inaugural meeting at 5:30 pm on January 18th, 2011 at “This Is It Soulfood Restaurant” located at 2712 Blodgett, in the Houston, Texas’s 3rd Ward.  Guest speakers will include recently elected Texas State House Representative James Earl White, House District 12 and Anita MonCrief, National Spokesperson for AmericanMajority.com.

MonCrief is also a former ACORN/Project Vote employee who testified against the controversial  “community organizing” group as part of a voter fraud registration case in Pennsylvania. In a press release, MonCrief described the “Crispus Attucks Tea Party” as a “non-partisan neighborhood group.”

“The Crispus Attucks Tea Party provides a way for Constituents to organize themselves around specific economic and political issues,” the release states. “It works to insure that Constituents have the benefit of divergent and truly competitive political ideas, points of view and debates so that they may truly vote their values; and know that their vote will be counted honestly. We provide viable means for those living outside such areas to get directly involved, share their skills and resources and make a difference. We focus on education and removing the remaining psychological shackles of poor education, hate, fear, suspicion, superstition and insecurity. These shackles are constantly used to isolate and manipulate Blacks and minimize the value of their ballots.”

Despite the setbacks it has experienced in the past two years, the organization known in full as the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN) will likely remain a potent force at least through the 2012 elections, MonCrief has warned. The ambitious re-branding scheme that began last April in response to on-going scandals includes affiliates in at least 12 states. They are better positioned to solicit key allies for continued funding without the radioactive ACORN label, MonCrief has explained. Labor unions and liberal foundations are among the key financial backers.

Even if the ACORN network persists, its appeal could wane over time as more black Americans are drawn toward the alterative vision Tea Party activists have expressed with force and verve. The new “Crispus Attucks” group places particularly strong emphasis on the founding principles of the American Revolution. “Our core principles are personal responsibility, education, constrained and transparent government, a balanced budget, self sufficiency, full assimilation and the development of viable Black businesses that create jobs,” MonCrief concludes in her release.

The upcoming meeting will also honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his commitment to civil rights. For more information, RSVP@CrispusAttucksTeaParty.com
