Saints in the Super Bowl: A Guaranteed Economic Success

Regardless of the Super Bowl outcome, February 7 will be a success for the city of New Orleans.

New Orleans is a great venue for travelers that is regaining its position as one of the most appealing tourist cities in the South. As reported in the Fourth Quarter Hospitality Industry Report, the city has 34,700 hotel rooms and 1,038 restaurants. In 2008, the city had 7.6 million visitors who spent over $5 billion, an increase in more than $3 billion since Hurricane Katrina. The numbers are expected to be even better in 2010.

Following the Saints’ success, a larger number of Super Bowl fans are expected to visit New Orleans. Hotels in the French Quarter reported a significant increase in reservations since Monday morning. Taking advantage of a great marketing opportunity, the Visitors Bureau is putting together a new advertising plan.

Higher revenue is expected for the New Orleans’ hospitality industry. Bars, restaurants, hotels, and stores across the city will experience an increase in sales. The city itself will benefit from an overall increase in tax revenue.

The positive effects will be calculated at the end of this year. Now it is time to put your Saints’ gear on and celebrate the Who Dat city.
